Submitting PSAs

Share Your Community Announcement on KPSQ!

We love highlighting local contributions to our community. Here’s how to submit a Public Service Announcement (PSA):

  • Non-Profits Only: PSAs are typically reserved for charitable, non-profit organizations.
  • Keep It Brief: Scripts should take 20–30 seconds to read.
  • Include the Essentials: Tell us who, what, when, where, and how to find more information (e.g., phone number or website).
  • No Calls to Action or Prices: Avoid phrases like “Come join us” or listing ticket costs.
  • Editing Policy: KPSQ may edit your PSA to meet our broadcast guidelines.

  2. Local Relevance:
    • Content must be directly relevant to listeners in KPSQ’s broadcast area.
  3. Event Fundraising:
    • PSAs promoting ticket sales must come from organizations authorized to fundraise for the non-profit.

    • These must be nondenominational, benefit the entire community, and be open to the public.
  6. Verification:
To confirm non-profit status, KPSQ may request:
    • Your organization’s tax-exempt ID number.
    • A brief description of your community services.
    • How long your organization has existed.
    • Information about funding sources.

Note: KPSQ reserves the right to decline any PSA.

Tips for Writing a Great PSA

  • Keep It Short:
Aim for 20–30 seconds (50–80 words). Shorter PSAs are more likely to air.
  • Make It Clear:
PSAs are often read directly by volunteers. Use simple, fluid sentences.
  • Provide Pronunciations:
Include phonetic spellings for difficult names or words (e.g., pro-NUN-see-A-shun).
  • Stick to Facts:
Avoid opinions or value-laden words like “best,” “fun,” or “high quality.” Use quotes if necessary.
  • Avoid Calls to Action:
Don’t say “Come on down” or “Check it out.” Instead, use neutral phrases like “You are invited.”
  • Don’t Mention Costs:
Replace price references with: “Ticket information is available at [phone number].”
  • Include Essentials:
Provide key dates, times, locations, and contact information.
  • Don’t Submit Press Releases:
Convert materials like press releases, brochures, or posters into concise PSAs that meet these guidelines.
